Dedicated to the memory of Harry

This site is a tribute to Harry Yardley, born in Islington in August 1934 and was one of seven children.

Harry had a very tough early life working for the family's fruit and Veg business from a very young age as a barrow boy at the Borough Market at London Bridge, The Cut in S.E London and the Northcote, Clapham,  where he also grew up. Harry proudly went on to join the Royal Ordinance corps serving as a sergeant with postings abroad and on leaving the British Army he went on to study and pass exams to work as a steam engine driver and during his illustrious career he had the opportunity to drive some of the United Kingdoms best loved trains that are still around today mostly on heritage railways, Harry was one of the Clapham Rail Yard drivers and is still part of the legend today!

Harry met his adoring wife Betty in 1950 and they married in June 1954, they shared a wonderful 68yrs together. Harry was the patriarch of the family to Nick, Joe, Tony, Tina and Alan, Gail and Mark, and Martyn,  he was a doting Grandfather to Sheryl, Samantha, Andrew and the youngest member of the family his Great Grandson Alfie.
